Black owned beauty should always be celebrated, but in the current climate it’s a great time to show your support and amplify the voices of Black entrepreneurs and businesses.

While signing petitions and donating to BLM organizations, remember to support the Black community by directly supporting their businesses.

Black culture, influences, and entrepreneurs have an enormous impact on the world of beauty and skin care. However, up until very recently when 40 shades became the industry standard in beauty, there were very few products on the market that served Black women.

These Black owned beauty brands are tirelessly working to change that.

To honor the contribution that Black influences have had on the beauty world, here are a few Black-owned beauty brands to shop now and always.

Oui the People

Karen Young, a founder and CEO and a Caribbean immigrant, created OUI the People to combat modern beauty standards. Instead of selling products as ‘perfecting’, ‘flawless’, or ‘anti-aging’, she builds products that are effective, thoughtful, and that help you feel great in the skin you’re already in.

Star product:  ‘The Big Reveal’ PHA ingrown relief toner gently exfoliates, helps prevent ingrown hairs and improves tone and texture.

Beauty Bakerie

After a challenging, but successful fight with breast cancer, Cashmere Nicole founded Beauty Bakerie in 2011 as a reflection of her resilience and her passion for high quality, health-conscious beauty products.

By supporting this brand, you can contribute to her initiatives to combat injustices in the community and support the needs of orphaned children worldwide through her Sugar Homes program.

Star product: Wake & Bake Hydrating Face Oil features 11 ingredients that work together to hydrate, protect, and nourish your skin. Infused with Marula oil, known as Africa’s beauty secret since 10,000 BC, this product is packed with vitamins and antioxidants.

Gilded Body

This brand is dedicated to making men and women feel both beautiful and empowered. Inspired by ancient skincare and beauty rituals of the Egyptians, Gilded offers a unique line of body care (bodies deserve the same care as our faces!).

Founder Blair Amstrong, an Emory University Physician’s Assistant, sought to make a change in the way people are cared for. Inspired by her clinical medical experience, she created Gilded Body to create a powerful skincare range that nourishes your skin while improving texture and appearance.

Star product: Supreme Body Balm, featuring the super moisturizer cupuacu butter, delivers healing and true hydration to dry to very dry skin. This product will have your body glowing and ultra-nourished for up to 72 hours.
